From: Mary Levic Walkinshaw Kroonen Information concerning my great-grandfather, William Thomas Adam, was received in a letter written April 25, 1952, by WIlliam Z. Adam of Bradley, California. He copied from the family bible, which had been in his family for the last hundred years, the following:
William Thomas Adam was born in the Highlands of Scotland near Kelaythe, May 1, 1791. He married Isabelle Laird of Lanarkshire, near Glasgow. After the death of his wife, he married Margaret Thompson, February 25, 1845 in the Parish of Bothell, in Glasgow, and with his second wife and other members of his family, he came to America in 1850. He died in Gilroy, California, January 15, 1875. ‎(Birthplace should be Kilsyth, Stirlingshire)‎
The following is a clipping from a family file at the Pajaro Valley Historical Association library. The source of the clipping was not noted:
      10-1-1907 - An Old Landmark
Old Mormon Church now being used as a barn. It may be of interest as a bit of ancient history to note that a building that was once used as a Mormon Church is still standing in Watsonville, though now doing useful but unecclesiastical duty as a barn. It formerly stood on the south side of First Street near where Mrs. C. Palmtag's residence now stands, but was moved across the street and is now the barn adjoining a house owned by the same lady, which strangely enough, was formerly the residence of the Mormon bishop, a man named Adam, who started the church of that sect in the late fifties or early sixties. Adam, who was an Englishman [sic], also started the first brewery in this part of the country, in the small building which forms the southeastern corner of the Pajaro brewery. It may have been that the reverend follower of Joseph Smith and Bringham Young started this brewery in the interests of temperance, for thirsty old settlers say that one drink of his beer was enough to make a man renounce the same for the rest of his life. Nevertheless, his product went but he name of beer selling at two dollars a keg, and Adam is said to have made considerable money before floating away to introduce beer and Mormonism somewhere else.
