    Ronald Russell's arrival into Canada
    Ronald Russell's arrival into Canada
Ron Russell left London, England aboard the Cunard Lines RMS Ausonia on May 21, 1926, and arrived in Quebec, Canada on May 30, 1926, at the age of 15. He was on his way to Powell River, B.C.. Powell River was chosen as a great place for Ron to play football (soccer). His aunt Jean (Hunter Family) and her husband Jack Drury had moved to Powell River sometime c 1919. On the Canadian Immigration form, John Drury's address was given as 801 Maple Ave., Powell River, B.C., and his mother's address as 75 Bexhill Rd., Crofton Park, London. His intended occupation was listed as "clerk" in "Paper Mills". He was also listed as a "Landed Immigrant".

  • Notes
    • Ron arrived in Quebec on May 30, 1926 on the Ausonia (Cunard Lines). He emigrated from London to play soccer in Powell River when he was 15. He gave John Drury, uncle, as the person he would be staying with in Canada. Address was 801 Maple Ave. His occupation was listed as clerk in paper mill. It appears that he was traveling with his uncle and aunt, Frederick C.C. Ross and Christina Ross with their son, Frederick D. Ross, however we are not ale to identify them as relatives.

Ron played soccer on the Moose Football Club during the 1929-1930 season. The club won the Bell Irving Cup that season. (source: Ken Russell)
