Apparently, Edmund Aimer left for New Zealand during this "scandal" in the Aimer family. The New Zealand side of the family says, "We always knew that something happened in Scotland that disappointed George II (the father of the forger) very much that had to do with George III (the forger). It also caused a big falling out between Edmund and his father (either caused by Edmund's decision to go as far away from home as possible, or causing it). There was hardly any contact between Edmund and his father after he moved to New Zealand except for money sent for the birth of each of his 13 children and a large chunk of money when the father died. This seems to solve the reason for Edmund's move to New Zealand."

HMS Beagle
HMS Beagle
Alexander Lindsay was stationed on St. Helena when Charles Darwin and the Beagle arrived in July, 1836.

May 9th. -- We sailed from Port Louis, and, calling at the Cape of Good Hope, on the 8th of July, we arrived off St. Helena. This island, the forbidding aspect of which has been so often described, rises abruptly like a huge black castle from the ocean. Near the town, as if to complete nature's defence, small forts and guns fill up every gap in the rugged rocks. The town runs up a flat and narrow valley; the houses look respectable, and are interspersed with a very few green trees. When approaching the anchorage there was one striking view: an irregular castle perched on the summit of a lofty hill, and surrounded by a few scattered fir-trees, boldly projected against the sky. - from Voyage of the Beagle by Charles Darwin

Jean & Kit Hunter
Jean & Kit Hunter
Catherine "Kit" is said to have been married four times, although some family members did not believe she had ever been legally married. As long as I remember her, she was a widow with the last name of Stewart. Kit owned an antique store in Oakland, California at about Grand Avenue and Broadway. After retiring she moved to Mountain View and then back to Oakland. In about 1969 she lived on Claremont Avenue just below Ashby, then moved to an apartment on Lakeshore Drive in Oakland. I think Kit's last husband/boyfriend had been a man named Charles. - Glenda Waugh
